The Actual Speech in a rough form
“STOP!!!! You must not do this!” She holds up a child for all to see the depth of the situation. Her brother comes through the crowd and in hushed tones says “_____, a battlefield is no place for you. Father and I will take care of this and you will finally come home.” “This child is mine, brother”. Father said, “Bring the child with you but these barbarians will receive what’s just for kidnapping you.” Projecting her voice, now speaking to all who could hear, “Open your ears, minds, and if your pride allows it, your hearts. One year ago we, the daughters of Sabine, were taken against our will. We hated these men for what they did to us in their chambers. Most of us became pregnant. As we struggled with these pregnancies, these ‘barbarians’ as you call them were the most gentle, considerate men I’ve beheld. We have grown to love them” and with more gentler tones, “as we love our fathers and brothers.” But then regaining her fervor and anger said, “And now we see you here in battle” spitting out the words “and we’re appalled. How could the people we love the most want to kill each other? Don’t you see what will happen? Our families hope to free us that we may be happy but you will only destroy our happiness but murdering our husbands! Our husbands hope to keep us with them by destroying the competition but that will only bring anger and depression as we lose our fathers and brothers! You both are on our side but there is a veil of unawareness clouding your judgment. Take it off now! It is the only way to make your girls happy.” Someone in the crowd calls, “then what do you expect us to do? Walk away?!” “Yes. Walk away until you are ready to meet your new family. The daughters of Sabine are now the wives of Rome. Deal with it.”
